The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Master Plan outlines several key developments in Tampines, aimed at enhancing its appeal as a vibrant and sustainable regional center.
1. Revitalization of Tampines Town Centre
The URA plans to rejuvenate the area around Tampines MRT station, transforming it into a dynamic mixed-use development. This initiative includes the construction of new housing, commercial spaces, and an integrated transport hub centered on the current Tampines Bus Interchange and MRT station. These enhancements aim to create a more vibrant and livable environment for residents.
2. Expansion of Housing and Community Facilities
In Tampines South, the Master Plan envisions the addition of approximately 8,000 new homes over the next 10 to 15 years. This residential growth will be complemented by new community facilities and green spaces, fostering a cohesive and sustainable living environment.
3. Enhanced Connectivity and Accessibility
The development of the Tampines North MRT station, part of the upcoming Cross Island Line (CRL), will significantly improve connectivity for residents. This new station will link Tampines to key areas such as Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, and the Jurong Lake District, facilitating more efficient travel across Singapore.
4. Commitment to Greenery and Sustainability
The URA’s Master Plan places a strong emphasis on enhancing green spaces and promoting sustainability in Tampines. This includes the development of new parks and the implementation of eco-friendly initiatives, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable living environment for residents.
These planned developments underscore Tampines’ evolution into a more vibrant, connected, and sustainable town, aligning with Singapore’s broader urban development goals.
